Many of the questions faculty frequently ask about Distance Education are listed below.


I want to use Canvas. What should I do first? 
The first step in using Canvas is to participate in the required training. Please review our Canvas Training Guide for full details on training requirements.


My course isn't on Canvas. What should I do? 
Verify with your academic area coordinator to ensure you have officially been assigned the course via the SIS. If you are the instructor of record and still do not see your course(s), please contact the DE Help Desk


There are no participants (student enrollments) in my Canvas course. What should I do? 
Your first step should be to check your course start date. Students are not uploaded until the course start date. If you are within the start date of the course and there are no students listed, please contact the DE Help Desk.


How do I add/remove students into my Canvas course? 
Once your course has been started, a daily upload of adding/deactivating students is processed in Canvas. This process runs twice daily at 5:00am and 5:00pm. If you have questions about this process, feel free to contact our DE Help Desk at (909) 652-6975 or OnlineEd@chaffey.edu.


 

My students can't see my Canvas course, but I can. What should I do? 
Students may only see published courses and content on Canvas. Please refer to the following Canvas guide on How to publish your Canvas course.

If you have published your course, but your students still can't see your course, please call the DE Help Desk at (909) 652-6975.


What is my Canvas username and/or password?

Username: MyChaffey Portal Username (ex:aa0123456), Password: MyChaffey Portal Password


What kind of training is required to teach DE (hybrid or online) courses on Canvas? 
Training requirements vary, depending on the level of Canvas use. Please see the Canvas tabs on the Faculty page for details on training requirements.


Where can I get Canvas training? 
Chaffey College provides Canvas training both online and in face-to-face formats. Please see the Canvas tabs on the Faculty page for a calendar of training sessions or visit the DE Hub on Canvas for online training details.


When will my students be able to log on to Canvas? 
Students will be able to log on to Canvas by 12 noon on the first scheduled day of the class. If your student has added the class after the start date, it will take one business day after they have added the class in ChaffeyVIEW before they will be able to access the course.


How do I make my course available to the students? 

Select the desired course. On the right corner of the screen there is a "Unpublished/Publish" button. Select the "Publish" button. A green checkmark will appear if the course is published successfully.


How do I backup my Canvas course?
