Rupi Kaur (Born on October 4, 1992)
Kaur began drawing and painting when she was five. An avid reader, she began writing in junior high school. Composing mainly essays at first, even winning a contest, she also wrote birthday poems and love poems about her crushes. After briefly considering fashion school and a business program, she enrolled in the University of Waterloo and studied rhetoric and professional writing. During university, she taught creative writing to high school and university students.
During her first year at university and using a pseudonym, Kaur posted her high school poems on various blogs before posting them--and more recent writing--on the social media sites Tumblr and then Instagram to incorporate a visual component under her own name. She soon gained a strong following and engaged directly with her fans to discuss her poetry and related issues. Continue . . .
