What Reference Book Would You Carry?
Why reference? Most of us would not consider taking a reference book on a trip. We may consider a novel, but not a dictionary, an encyclopedia, an almanac, or a directory.
However, reference books can be very useful and reliable information sources!
What is a reference book?
Reference Books
A reference book contains factual information that we refer to when we are seeking specific information. For example, when we want a definition of a word, we will refer to a dictionary. Other examples include encyclopedias, atlases, and almanacs. Unlike fiction books, for example, we do not read reference books from the first page to the last page; we consult these books for specific information.
We depend on electronic devices for directions, and most of us are familiar with Google Maps, but technology can have hiccups. Thus, a map of Grand Canyon National Park or Seattle may be useful to pack.
