Your Account in Chaffey

Your Chaffey ID can be used to:

  • Request and renew library materials
  • See what you have checked out
  • See your library fines


Your Chaffey ID card is your Library Card 

You can access the following items from the Circulation desk:

  • Books
  • Reserve Textbooks
  • Audiovisual Materials
  • Group Study Rooms (6-8 people)
  • Magazines and Journals
  • Flashdrives (in library use only)
  • Headphones (in library use only)
  • Headphones with Microphone (in library use only)
  • Noise Cancelation Headphones (in library use only)
  • SD Cards (in library use only)

Books, magazines and journals can be sent to any of our campuses.


Checkout Policies:

  • In order to utilize the library circulation services you must have your Student ID card with you and be currently enrolled in at least one credit course.
  • Circulation does not accept broken, chipped or faded IDs.  Pictures must be clear and visible.
  • Only you can use your library card to check out library materials. Allowances may be made for professors and students/staff with long term disability or illness.

Replacement ID cards can be purchased for $8 at Admissions & Records. Replacement ID cards are FREE on Thursdays. For more information, please visit:


Materials on reserve for a class are kept behind the desk at Circulation. You will need to have the call number of the material for the staff to find it (it will usually begin with the letter RES).

  • If you do not know the call number for your item, you can look it up in the Library Catalog.
  • Overnight reserve books must be returned and renewed at their home location.

If you do not know the title of the textbook you need, the Chaffey Bookstore has a search engine on its site (click on Textbooks on the top of the Bookstore homepage to access), where you can search for the titles of the required and optional textbooks for a course.


Textbooks & Reserve Materials:

  • Textbooks & Reserve materials are 1 hour use within the Library or are designated for overnight checkout.
  • A maximum of 2 Reserve Textbooks may be checked out on a student account.

Books in the General Collection:

  • Check out for 2 weeks and can be renewed until the end of the semester.
  • A maximum of 30 general collection books may be checked out on a student account.

Other Items available for Checkout:

  • Magazines or journal issues (except volumes) check out for 1 week.
  • Calculators check out overnight.
  • Videos are for use within the library for the length of the video.
  • Camcorders and tripods check out for 3 days. 
  • Reference books do not check out, they are for use within the library only.
  • Circulation also checks out headphones, flash drives and SD Card readers. These do not have a time limit but are for use within the library only.


Fines are accrued by returning library items after the due date/time. Your account may be blocked if you owe the library any fines.

  • Overdue books and periodicals are 25 cents per day.
  • Overdue reserve materials, $10.00 per hour.
  • Overdue overnight reserve materials, $10.00 per day.
  • Camcorders and tripods are $10.00 each, per day.
  • The cost for lost material is $25.00 per item + cost of replacement ($15.00 is non-refundable if materials is returned).
  • Charge for replacement group study-room key is $50.00 plus $25.00 processing fee.
  • If a group study-room key is taken out of the library building, a fee of $25 will be assessed.
  • Late fee for study group room keys are $5.00

Pay your fine in person at the circulation desk with cash only.

Failure to pay your fines will result in your account being blocked, at which point, you will be unable to register for classes.


*Payment with checks are only accepted under the following conditions:

  • Fine is over $10
  • Fine is less than 1 year old
  • Check has fine holder's current address
  • Check holder has a government issued photo ID present


To renew your books, you may bring your items to the Circulation Desk with your Chaffey ID. You can also renew online from the Library Catalog. Overnight reserve books must be returned and renewed at their home location.

  • Books cannot be renewed over the phone.
  • Overdue materials cannot be renewed; renewals must be made before the due date.
  • There is no limit on renewals, but all materials must be returned by the end of the semester.
  • Books with holds placed on them and textbooks on reserve cannot be renewed online.

Other Important Information:

  • Renewals must be made before the due date of item(s).
  • We are unable to renew items over the phone or via email, but you can bring items and Chaffey ID to the front desk of any of our branches to renew.
  • Some materials cannot be renewed. 
  • The Library is not responsible for technical errors.
  •  If you have overdue materials or fines of $5.00 or more you will be unable to renew items.


You can return library materials at any of our campuses at the Circulation Desk. Rancho Cucamonga also has a book drop located in the north-east corner of parking lot #2, next to the library to return materials when the library is closed.


In order to checkout a group study room, the following policies must be observed:

  • More than one person of a group must be present in order to check out a room.
  • No eating or drinking is allowed in the rooms with the exception of water.
  • These rooms are available for quiet study. A reasonable level of noise/activity must be maintained.
  • Furniture in the rooms is to be used only for its original intent and purpose: chairs for sitting, tables for writing, placing material. Sleeping or engaging in activities other than study constitutes grounds for removal.
  • Maximum occupancy of the rooms must be observed at all times.
  • Rooms must be vacated 15 minutes prior to closing.
  • After vacating the room, close and lock the door and return the key to the Circulation desk.
  • The group-study key may not leave the library. If the room is vacant for more than 5 minutes and the key is unreturned, the library will assume that the key has been taken from the room and a fee of $25 will be assessed.

By signing in to use a Group Study Room, you understand that you are responsible for the conduct of persons using the room while checked out under your name. Any violations will result in removal from the room and may also result in loss of checkout privileges for rooms and disciplinary action.


You are welcome to utilize books and other print resources within our library. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide full privileges including, but not limited to, item checkouts, computer use, database use, and group study room use.
