HOME EDITION WORKSHOP:

Make a Zine with Tierra del Sol Studios

February 10, 2021 from 1230 - 130pm

Supplies: Please have at least 1 8.5 x 11-inch piece of paper, scissors, a glue stick, old magazines, and pens, pencils, or markers with you at this workshop.

Jackie Marsh has worked as a studio artist at the progressive art studios of Tierra del Sol since 2009. Marsh produces whimsical depictions of animals and flowers in painting, drawing and ceramics. In both her two- and three-dimensional work, gestural mark-making is combined with a vibrant and loosely applied color palette to define her delightfully exuberant style.

In addition to being a studio artist, Marsh also teaches art classes at Upland Art Studios, the Joslyn Senior Center and other venues. Her work has been exhibited at such venues as the Chan Gallery, Pomona College, Claremont, California; California Baptist University, Riverside, California; Claremont Graduate University, Claremont, California; and Zask Gallery, Palos Verdes, California. When she’s not developing her art career, you can find Marsh at work providing compassionate care to the animals of local animal shelters.

Katie Mendoza has a deep interest in the world around her and she thoughtfully shares with others her insights on a wide variety of subjects. She is an explorer and inspires those around her with a positive inquisitiveness. Mendoza seeks daily to expand her skills and is a naturally talented artist and teacher. Every day she has something brilliant to share.

Mendoza creates and designs characters and stories for movies. She recently designed and made a set of tarot cards and does readings. Mendoza’s paintings, drawings and sculpture generally have a surprise element to draw the viewer in.

How to Make a Rad Zine and More with Micah Wood

December 16, 2020 3 - 4pm (PST)

Micah Wood is an artist living and working in Los Angeles, California. He works in a variety of media including painting, sculpture and performance. The imagery found throughout Wood’s paintings oscillate between found images and advertising to automatic drawings and observational sketches. Wood’s paintings lie at the nexus of abstraction and figuration and seek to create a distinctive vision of his environment. Recent solo and group exhibitions include Brittany, Vallejo, CA; Cassandra Cassandra, Toronto, Canada; Héctor Escandon, Mexico CIty, Mexico; Egyptian Arts and Antiques, Los Angeles, CA; Simultanhalle, Moscow Museum of Modern Art, Moscow, Russia; Johansson Projects, Oakland, CA; and the Fondation Des Etats-Unis, Paris, France. He was a co-director of City Limits Gallery in Oakland, CA from 2016-2018 where he organized several solo and group exhibitions.

CURIOUS PRINT FAIR
A Virtual Zine and Print Fair April 11th-24th at curiouspublishing.org

Curious Publishing presents a virtual zine and print fest celebrating the exciting world of printed ephemera. This exciting event invites patrons and community members of all backgrounds serving as a virtual meeting space for artists, indie publishing houses and book enthusiasts, as well as a space for dialogue and exchange around all facets of arts publishing. Enjoy printed media in forms such as: cyanotype, risograph, block prints, photographs, hand bound zines, posters, art-books, and much more. Our virtual Zine and Print Fair will allow you to view and purchase from the comfort of your phone or computer! This 14-day fair is the first Virtual Fair presented by Curious Publishing, and will incorporate dozens of vendors and a print sale to benefit Curious Publishing’s efforts toward opening their print studio in 2022. To support the independent zine and print makers participating, all vendors participating will receive 100% of the sales made!
About Us: Curious Publishing is a fiscally sponsored project of The Arts Area, a 501 C (3) Non-Profit Organization. Curious Publishing is 100% artist owned and operated since 2017. We tell the stories of artists of all practices who reside throughout San Bernardino, Los Angeles, and the High Desert Communities through one of a kind, small-run artbooks designed and printed in Southern California. We aim to celebrate the rich diaspora of Inland Empire, Womxn, BIPOC and Queer Artists first and foremost.

Printed Matter’s Virtual Art Book Fair (PMVABF) takes place from February 25–28, 2021, with an Opening on Wednesday, February 24 

PMVABF will kick-off with a celebratory Opening event on Wednesday, February 24, 4pm EST, which will include musical performances, interactive activities, a new variety show by Bob Baker Marionette Theater, and the premiere of RE/Search Publications's V. Vale and Marian Wallace’s theme song for the Fair, plus many ways to discover publishers, hang out, and have fun!  The Opening is free with registration.
