Her Story: The Female Revolution Over the past few decades, life for many women across the globe has changed beyond all recognition. This fascinating series explores how, from the highest echelons of society, to the lowest rungs of the global ladder, a quiet revolution has been taking place. By 1911, “votes for women” had become, as one journalist noted, “the three small words which constitute the biggest question in the world today.” While galvanizing to many, such radical action was also divisive.
The Vote: Episode 2 This program, part two of the series, examines the mounting dispute over strategy and tactics. The suffragists, stung by a string of bitter state-level defeats in the fall of 1915, concentrated their energies on the passage of a federal amendment. One faction was determined to pursue a moderate course and work within the political system, while another deployed ever-more confrontational and controversial methods of protest. Unladylike 2020 Unladylike2020 honors the centennial of women's suffrage. These digital resources present the rich history of 26 little-known Progressive Era women, diverse in profession, race, ethnicity, geographical and class backgrounds, sexual orientation and gender expression, who broke barriers in then-male-dominated fields such as science, business, journalism, exploration, and the arts. Touching on topics such as the labor movement, immigration, politics, civil rights, and women’s suffrage, these resources develop students’ historical thinking skills and help them make connections between past and present.
